My Wife's Dance Instructor

Curator’s note

His wife booked tango lessons to repair their marriage, then canceled the second week and kept on canceling. So the husband attends, and the instructor insists that someone should dance with her. Episode 1 is a lesson in hips and timing, a hold that is too firm to be technique and a mention of a private routine. Episode 2 reveals the wife's presence at class at last, new moves she never showed at home and a work dinner that turns into overtime. Everything is choreography until it is not. Two parts are free.

Inside the frame

A dance studio, a missing spouse and a teacher who treats rules as steps to be broken. The forbidden line is marriage, and the free part stays on posture, music and what a hold really means.

Best seen: Ideal for a golden evening of slow music, close dancing and a man who is learning fast.
