Curator’s note

Dana has a single week to lock in her promotion, and she takes Jake, the man she is marrying, along to the desert house of her boss, Marcus Voss. Jake is told to stay invisible. Instead he is summoned to a private talk by the fire pole, where Marcus confesses that every man who visits ends up staring at his wife, Vanessa, and most deny it. Episode 2 reveals a decade-old retreat tradition: a game with three rules, a guest casita and total secrecy from Dana. Jake is sent to put sunscreen on a very welcoming hostess and finds that nobody here plays by anyone's schedule.

Inside the frame

A sun-drenched estate with a husband who sets the rules, a wife who chose her favorite on arrival, and a fiancée kept in the dark. Complicity as sport. The free episodes stay suggestive, the real games begin later.

Best seen: For the viewer who likes power games with excellent lighting and bad news for anyone's career.

Plate IEpisode 1

Plate I. A promotion hangs on a retreat at the home of a powerful executive. The fiance is told to be invisible and promptly is not. The host's wife is charming, the host's pool is vast, and the host himself asks a single, direct question about his wife. Every guest before our hero has lied in answer. The plate leaves the answer unspoken.

Plate IIEpisode 2

Plate II. The question was a test, or maybe a custom: a long running game with three strict rules. The wife apparently picked our hero before he left the car. He is sent to the guest house with sunscreen, a chore that is anything but plain. A loosened knot and a quiet call of his name close the frame.
