Curator’s note

Slade arrives at a beach house with his college girlfriend Gretchen and meets her stepmother Holly, who is not what he pictured. Episode 1 is a family introduction full of polite nerves and a best friend named Brittany who recognizes him from somewhere else entirely. Episode 2 turns the past into leverage: a secret from Holly's former life, a promise to keep quiet and a Ferris wheel ride that is less about the view than the privacy. Holly is a recurring Candy character and appears in other series. Two parts are free.

Inside the frame

A summer rental, a secret that cuts both ways and an amusement park wheel with no witnesses. The taboo is the family link, the leverage is mutual, and the free part sticks to dares and innuendo.

Best seen: Perfect for a warm night when you want the boardwalk, the neon and a mildly scandalous secret.

Plate IEpisode 1

A boyfriend meets his girlfriend's family at a beach house for summer break: a dad, a daughter, and a glamorous stepmom named Holly who is far from what he pictured. A random question about whether they have met opens an awkward exchange, and the stepmom shrugs that she doesn't catalogue past acquaintances, though she's willing to start a new one.

Plate IIEpisode 2

On a boardwalk outing, the pieces of a shared past click: the boyfriend and the stepmom's friend remember the stage of a strip club on the coast where the stepmom once danced. She asks for silence, promising a reward later. A Ferris wheel provides the setting: his girlfriend dreads heights, so he rides with the stepmom, who has something to show him.
