Curator’s note

Ava's fiancé Brad cannot make a single wedding errand, so Leo is promoted from stepbrother to understudy. Episode 1 begins at home, where Ava announces the casting: today he is Brad, and tonight he is the husband-to-be. She needs practice, and she knows precisely where Brad usually places his hands and where she would rather he did. A phone call from the real groom confirms the arrangement with a hopelessly relaxed shrug, and the rehearsal ends on the officiant's famous line. The title tells you where it is going; five episodes, the first two free, take their time getting there. Brad, for the record, is described as harmless. We shall see.

Inside the frame

A bridal rehearsal that keeps changing leading men: the dress fitting, the vow practice, the preview of a kiss. The taboo is borrowed, and the free episodes stop at the altar, hinting only at the wedding night.

Best seen: A fine match for the person who treats every wedding as a drama with a rehearsal dinner and a plot twist.

Plate IEpisode 1

A bride-to-be drags her stepbrother in to stand in for her fiance, who is too busy to rehearse. Her request is tender and specific: she wants to practice being held, and she corrects the way the absent groom does everything. When the fiance phones, he calls the stand-in harmless. The line becomes a challenge that she is determined to test.
