My Stepmom Is 22

Curator’s note

Kyle's father marries a new wife and then leaves for the whole summer, asking his son to look after her. Skye is wickedly funny, a few years older than her stepson and sure of her authority. Her rules, in theory, are simple: stay seated, keep your hands to yourself and just watch. Episode 1 introduces the household and a bathroom door that conveniently refuses to close. Episode 2 brings in a best friend with a taste for wine, and the rule book suddenly gets thinner. A glance through an open door becomes an accusation and then, very quickly, an invitation Kyle struggles to refuse.

Inside the frame

An empty summer house, a stepmother who sets rules in order to break them and a stepson caught in the draft. The forbidden line is a door ajar. The free episodes remain playful and well covered.

Best seen: Summer viewing for the audience who likes a house rule that comes with a built-in expiry date.
