Dad Left My Step-Mom

Curator’s note

Tyler is home for the weekend because his father has walked out on his stepmother Josie, who goes by Jo, and left her wondering whether she looks old. Tyler says she is his stepmom, and she points out that he is clearly noticing. His hand shakes. His dad is coming Sunday to talk, and she asks Tyler to stay, because she does not want to sleep alone. Episode 2 has his father calling while she asks Tyler whether this feels old, and mentions that he has been looking for three summers. It is her house, and his move.

Inside the frame

A suburban kitchen, a guilty weekend and a wife who has been overlooked for years. The free episodes rely entirely on confessions, dares and a ringtone with terrible timing, plus a stepmother's sharp sense of humor.

Best seen: A fit for anyone who believes that a broken heart gives permission to an interesting weekend.
